Loving these finds from Anthropologie. Have you ever seen such fabulous dessert plates? Color people. Easy way to get a POP in a room. I would hang these on my wall or display on a shelf. Too pretty to eat off of....

Really....how creative! I like the idea of these being used as a vase or even to hold kitchen utensils. You really don't even need to put anything in them. They could be decorative pieces in a bookshelf.

This is a utensil holder (hence the u.) but I think you could use as a vase with a bunch of white peonies and roses. Love and again my fave green!

Now, loving this wallpaper! Amber posted this as part of Gwynnie's (her daughter's) big girl room design board. Don't you just love the burst of blossoming color!

Roasted Grape + Goat Cheese + Honey Stuffed Sweet Potatoes

Is your mouth watering yet? We had this for supper last week and this sweet and savory potato is the BOMB!!!! I had it as my main meal but would be a perfect side.

My grapes did NOT come out looking quite like these...in fact I burned half of them, but the ones that survived were sugary gooey treats.

Roasted Grape + Goat Cheese + Honey Stuffed Sweet Potatoes

[inspired by Maria's crostini]

makes 4 potatoes

4 sweet potatoes

2 cups red, seedless grapes

1 teaspoon grapeseed oil (or another high heat oil) (I just used olive oil bc that's what I had)

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon pepper

4 ounces goat cheese (I used bulgarian feta cheese bc not a fan of goat cheese)

2 tablespoons honey + additional for drizzling

pinch of cinnamon and nutmeg (did not use-sweet potatoes are flavorful enough!)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Poke holes in sweet potato with a fork, then wrap each tightly in aluminum foil. Bake for 45-60 minutes, or until potatoes and tender to the touch. Unwrap foil and cut a slit down the middle of each sweet potato. Let sit until cool enough to handle.

Increase oven temperature to 450 degrees F. Lay grapes on a nonstick baking sheet and drizzle with grapeseed oil and a pinch each of salt and pepper, then toss to coat. Roast for 20-25 minutes, or until grapes begin to burst. Remove from the oven and let cool.

Once sweet potatoes are somewhat cool, gently remove the flesh with a spoon, trying to keep the potato intact. Add the sweet potato to a large bowl, then mash with 3 ounces of goat cheese, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, pepper and honey. Taste and adjust seasonings if desired, then scoop flash back into the potato skins. At this point you can re-warm the potatoes (if you let them cool completely) in the oven, then top with remaining goat cheese. Add grapes on top and serve with additional drizzled honey.

Leafy Greens and White Beans over Quinoa

Ingredients

1 cup quinoa (cook in chicken broth)
2 tablespoons olive oil
3 cups leafy greens [kale, collard greens, mustard greens, etc.](kale-cooked in chicken broth)
1 15oz can cannellini beans [white beans], drained, rinsed
2 fresh Roma tomatoes, sliced (I roasted my tomatoes)
1/4 cup goat cheese, crumbled [leave off if making this vegan] (Bulgarian Sheep's milk Feta)
1/2 teaspoon fresh thyme, optional (did not use)
salt + pepper, to taste
added grilled salmon

Directions

In a small saucepan, add quinoa, 1 1/2 cups of water and bring to a boil. Reduce to a simmer and cover for 16-18 minutes or until all the water is absorbed. Remove from the heat and fluff with a fork; set aside.

In a medium/large pan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add leafy greens, by the handful and toss until they begin to wilt, then add remaining greens. Toss with tongs until wilted. Add beans and cook for about 3 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove from heat.

When you’re ready to serve, place about 1/2 cup quinoa on your plate, season with salt and pepper. Add 3-4 tomato slices, top with sauteed greens and beans, then sprinkle fresh thyme. Optional, add 1-2 tablespoons of goat cheese.

So here is how mine turned out.

AMAZING!!!

This was so doggone good y'all!!!! Big R said literally it was his favorite meal-not kidding!!!! It is so healthy for you and had amazing flavor!! I have to say we are slightly addicted to salt in this family so cooking the quinoa and kale in salty chicken broth may not be necessary for most but it sure does add flavor. And the roasted tomatoes were a good call-always a good call in any recipe I think! Ok, so you gotta try it and let me know your thoughts!!!!

Tar-Jay does it again! Of course went in for T.P and Huggies and come out with a new pair of kicks! Love them so, but I must say do go up a size-super uncomfortable. The things you do for fashion!

Cashed in on a gift card at Williams Sonoma this weekend and came home with the most unbelievable smelling diffuser. So not a diffuser type typically but this one is 100% worth every penny! The scent is Fleur de Sel and is amazing. I can't do it justice with describing the scent...you just gotta go and get one.

So excited about this other purchase with my gift card. Have y'all seen these or do you have one? Cannot wait to make some fun, healthy pops with little R!

I've gotta share with you the most unbelievable meal! Well, in my opinion at least. I have decided our eating habits need a major overhaul. After moving last week/weekend, all we ate were fries, pizza, mexican, etc. Ugh...I feel gross even writing about it. So, last night I decided to change things around here and cook for the first time in our home away from home for the next few months.

Superfood Salad with Lemon Vinaigrette

This is the image off Pinterest of what it's supposed to look like.

Soo, so delicious!!!! Here is the recipe. I will insert in red where i made changes

Ingredients:

1/2 cup dry quinoa

1/3 cup red onion, chopped

1 orange, peeled and segments chopped

1 avocado, chopped

1 cup canned black beans, rinsed and drained

1 cup pomegranate arils (about 1 pomegranate worth) (I couln't find so I used red grapes instead-actually delicious!!!)

1 cup frozen corn, thawed

added sauteed mushrooms

added chopped fresh tomatoes

1/3 cup cilantro, chopped

salt & pepper

For the Lemon Vinaigrette:

2 lemons, juiced (need 1/4 cup juice)

2 garlic cloves, microplaned or finely minced (used one bc Big r hates garlic)

dash of sweetener (agave nectar, stevia or white sugar) (did not use)

salt & pepper

6 Tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

Grilled Shrimp

lots of honey

lots of sriracha sauce

olive oil

s & p

Directions:

1. Cook quinoa according to package directions. Set aside to cool.

2. For the Lemon Vinaigrette: combine all ingredients in a jar with a tight fitting lid, and shake to combine. Or, add lemon juice, garlic, sweetener, salt and pepper into a small bowl and whisk in oil.

3. Combine cooled quinoa with red onion, orange segments, avocado, beans, pomegranate arils, corn, cilantro, salt and pepper. Pour Lemon Vinaigrette over the salad and stir to combine. Serve cold or at room temperature.

I know, this looks totally dangerous but I promise I was right there and the trash bag is not over his head!!! Wish you could see under it though...he has a black eye, busted lip, and brown magic marker all over his face and in his ear...what am I gonna do with that boy!!!!

Looking innocent as ever, but I can assure you this sweet face ran immediately over and put his brother in headlock position as soon as the camera was put away. At least daddy was home at this point, so I continued to cook.

And no, this is not a new addition to the West Elm collection, I thought I would sow you some recent happenings with blue chickadee. I have been messing around with block printing and tried it out on a paper bag first, but planning to do some new looks for the muslin bags. Here's a pic of my first few tries with a potato....

I think the middle one is my favorite. I used these 4"X6" bags to house photos of the boys to give as gifts to their grandparents and aunts/uncles. You can see above I just used a boiling red potato and a corn sticker as my handle.

On to other news, I'm not sure if I have mentioned this recently but we are moving out! Not for long, just a few months so we can get a little work done on the house. I thought I would share a few "before" pics if you will.

Big R insisted on throwing a BCS party at our house (1 week before the move-love you;)) so I decided it would be an opportune time to snap a few before shots..

And yes, this was the final showing on the big screen in the backyard. Big R couldn't handle Clemson's loss and took it down with a butcher knife. Poor sport if you ask me:) We will now be watching movies on the garage doors:(

So back to the move, we are moving THURSDAY. Wait that's in 3 days...should be interesting getting our house packed up with these type of shenanigans going on....

Planners.

So each year I have the same dilemma. Where can I find a good looking, just the right size, fits the bill for all my handwritten scribble scrabble, day planner??? I don't know about you but I still have to write everything down on paper. All of my biz orders are written down-crazy I know. So, I scoured the internet and finally came upon Sarah Pinto's website. This is the one I ordered and cannot wait for it to arrive. I went with the horseshoe on the grey cover.

A portion of Sarah's proceeds go to Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford. Her youngest son was born with a heart defect. You can go here to read more.

When sitting down to write this post, I was scrolling through my daily blog reads and realized Brooke was posting about planners as well and included this fantastic LIFE PLANNER in her post. Wow!!! Maybe for 2013!

Wow, I am so lucky!!! I was thinking about how many mega talented artistic girlfriends I have and I am just blown away!!!! Among my nearest and dearest are artists, jewelry designers, graphic designers, photographers, seamstresses, culinary delights, and the list goes on.... Just so proud of all my gals for going after their passion in life and doing what they love. Oh and most of these ladies are mommas too! Oh how do we juggle it all????!!!!

Lets cut to the chase here people, one of these uber talented ladies happens to be a friend of mine here in Charleston. Ashley Warnock to be exact and she is such an amazing photographer, particularly of children in my opinion! Not to mention she is the sweetest and most kind person you will meet in your life!!!!! My sister in law grew up with her in Montgomery, Al and a college buddy lived with her in NYC so lets just say we were meant to meet at some point in our lives. The Blender. This is were we spend lots of time with R's family. This house has been in their family for many generations and time is divided among all of the R's dad's cousins still. Even so, we spend about 4 full weeks a year here. The luckiest part for us is it is only about 7 minutes from our house!!! Many, many great memories here!!!!!

Thought I would share a few recent pics of what I have been up too lately..... Hope you don't get bored but there were too many pics to narrow down. We spent Thanksgiving week with Big R's side of the family on Sullivans Island. We had the most beautiful weather. Perfect for these three little badgers to run around on the porch and beach.

I Need Help!

I really do. I am trying to get everything lined up for this reno to take place at the first of the year (fingers crossed) and I need your help deciding on paint colors. This may not be very exciting for most but I need your input on what your favorite neutral colors are and what brand????? Do I go with Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore???? Or a whole other route!!! Have you checked out Andrika's blog, Nursery Notations? She has a talent for designing functional yet playful interiors for children. I have been following her blog for a long while now and always see inspiring photos here.

Well, much to my surprise, I noticed on her post from yesterday, she mentioned blue chickadee!!! It's always fun coming across your work on a blog of someone you admire!!! She helped a customer of mine out with her nursery design a few months back. Do you remember my post about the UPS disaster???!!!

In my mind, how can you forget???

This was such a disaster! Shipped all the way to NYC only for it to arrive a week before "baby to be" was to arrive and it came out of the packaging looking like this!!!! Ahhh!!!!! Not to worry, this customer took it into her own hands and basically had to redo the entire painting and here it is now...

Ring Pulls

Back to the ole dresser hardware debate. I have finally made a decision..or so I think. I can always return:) I decided to go with these ring pulls for little R's dresser. The ones on the far left. They came from Lee Valley Tools LTD and were only $36.95 including shipping for 10 pulls!!!! That was just under half the price it would have cost to order the ones I adore from Anthropologie. Still love them though.

DIY Abaca Lights

I have been scouring Pinterest for any ideas on lighting. As I have mentioned before, we are soon to start a renovation on our house. We are in stage one now, trying to make some decisions before tearing down walls and blowing out ceilings-yikes!!!! Lighting is a main concern of mine because I have yet to find the perfect pendant light for our living room. I am so impatient and like to check things off my lists, so this in particular is driving me nuts!!! I love anything circular and natural fibers. So this struck my fancy. A DIY to boot. Not sure I would have the patience but such a cool idea!!!!!

Supplies and tools

bouncy balls of various sizes
clear drying craft glue (about 1 bottle per ball) such as Aleene’s Clear Gel Tacky Glue
hemp string 20lb. weight
estimated amounts needed:
16 inch diameter ball—400 yards
14 inch diameter ball—300 yards
9 inch diameter ball—100 yards
plastic gloves (optional)
trash bag or small drop cloth
permanent marker
ball inflating needle (available at sporting goods stores or bike shops)
light fixture and hardware (any one of these pendant fitters at Lowe’s, Ikea’s Januari cord set or Hemma cord set will work)

1. Draw a circle on the ball with a permanent marker. This circle will mark a space on the lamp that needs to remain clear of string. The empty circle will be used in assembling the light fixture and will allow you to have access for changing light bulbs. If the light fixture you are using has lamp shades, make sure that the circles are big enough for the shades to easily pass through.

2. Cover your work surface with trash bags or a drop cloth, and put on gloves (this gets messy).

3. The best way, I found, to apply the glue is to squeeze a quarter size amount onto your fingers and run the hemp string through the glue and then wrap it around the ball. The string should stick fairly easily to the ball. I tried two other methods that also worked reasonably well, but were much more time consuming and made a bigger mess. You can fill a shallow tub with the glue and run the hemp string through it, or you can apply the glue directly to the string from the bottle.

4. Glue and wrap, glue and wrap, glue and wrap. Just keep going. Try to wrap randomly to avoid criss-cross patterns. The more densely wrapped the lamp is the stronger it will be.

5. Make sure to avoid wrapping string over the circle area. If there are any areas that seem weak, you can apply a little extra glue to give it more strength.

6. Repeat the steps 1-5 to make multiple lamps. Let the glue dry completely. (The glue I recommended takes about 48 hours to cure completely.)

7. Use the inflating needle to deflate the ball.

8. Remove the deflated ball from the lamp.

9. This part takes some basic electrical skills. Follow the installation instructions that come with your light fixture. While installing the light string, feed the wires through the circle hole of the lamp and up through the top, so that the light bulb will hang down in the center of the sphere.

Seven Years

So folks, this weekend marks the hubster and my SEVEN year anniversay!!! I cannot believe it??!!! We have made a lot of wonderful memories over the years!! One happy dog and two wild boys later we are still laughing at each others jokes. Big R decided to surprise me with a night away (in our own town) tonight and we absolutely cannot wait!!! We're headed to Charleston Place for the night while my in laws spend the night with the boys.

I'm thinking we will take a Rikshaw over to our favorite spot

I have some really random loves this week as far as food goes but I must share them all:)

First are these crunchy bits of heaven. These seriously are the BEST dry roasted almonds on the market. They have a touch of sweet and just enough salt with a side order of perfectly seasoned deliciousness . Ca-RUNCHY too:)

I know I have talked about this cheese before but I cannot get enough!!! If you have not tried Parrano cheese before, you must go get some this week.

I have been loving it topped on these crackers below. Random, right? I think I had them at my in laws once and from then on I have been addicted. They are crunchy and salty. Find them on the Asian aisle.

And last but not least my pep me up after an early morning wakeup and/or getting uncooperative children ready for school.

I need some help from you people! I am looking for a dresser redo in little R's room. All his knobs are falling off...see below.

I am thinking of painting it Naval by Sherwin Williams.

And adding these knobs from Anthropologie.

I love them but they are priced a little higher than I wanted to spend at $8 a knob. I need 10 so that means $88 total. Any chance any of you know of cheaper, just as handsome knobs somewhere else??? Please do tell:)

I don't know if you remember back in July when I went to Pawleys Island with the fam and squeezed in a little photo shoot with my uber talented photography friend, Emily Corey? She seriously has some mad talent. I have anxiously awaited the arrival of these precious pics, and today they arrived!!!! I could not be more thrilled with how they turned out!!! Here is a sneak peek.

I must say 15 months is a tough age to get your angel baby photographed:) Doesn't this picture above tell it all?

A little Shrimp and Grits Kids shout out here. My friend Megan has the most adorable line of smocked and appliqued children's clothes here in Charleston. She designs them all herself!!!! Aren't they precious!

I can't tell you how much I love this eyelet dress! My good bud and Novel. business partner, Lauren Lail, owns Library: Archives of Fashion and this is a little number from her. Can you believe it used to have huge puffy long sleeves???

And this gorgeous necklace came from my cuz and unbelievably talented jewelry designer (partner at Novel. as well-enough descriptive words for ya?) Jane Pope Cooper. You would know her jewelry lines as Balboa Jewelry and Jane Pope Collection.

Look at these little backs!!! I'm getting a little sappy over here, but I know before too long they are going to sitting here in their board shorts drinking a beer..sniff sniff.

Spinach Basil Pesto

This is the perfect recipe for those of you who want to use up all of your basil this summer but want to stay health(ier). Pesto is not "bad" for you, but the amount I like to use on pizza, spaghetti, dips, is unhealthy. So, I came up with a much lower calorie/fat recipe if you are interested. I do not measure so I will try my best at proportions here.

Huge bunch of fresh basil (like the bunch you get at Whole Foods if you were to buy)
1/2 container of crumbled Parmesan Cheese (again at Whole Foods where bagged shredded cheese is, but this comes in container)
1/4 cup chicken broth
1/2 bag fresh spinach-wilted in steamer or microwave
2-3 garlic cloves
salt if needed
few dashes of olive oil

I blend all above ingredients in a blender but you most certainly can use a food processor.

*I don't use pine nuts or any nut for that matter and only a touch of olive oil.

I am telling you, this stuff is good!!! Really hard to tell the difference! Perfect to use on my Naan Bread Pizzas or as a spaghetti sauce!!!! I literally have dipped pretzel thins in it too and still good!!! Give it a try and let me know what you think!!!

Smart vs Dumb

Do any of you have husbands who make impulsive decisions? Without consulting you first. I do. It's happened more than once and usually revolves around football.

I'll take you back a week and a half ago. Big R tells me he has a surprise for us (the boys too) when we get home. My excitement level is through the roof. Can't you tell? I'm no dummy, I know football season is approaching. We walk in and he shows me the massive (exact same TV that we already have, eh hum) in a box. Smart TV. Any of you familiar? I'm not and had no idea what a Smart TV is, still don't. All I know is it's the exact same TV-size and brand that we already have??? FYI, he went to Best Buy to buy cable wires and came home with this. So, if any of you can help me out with positives for the ~~Dumb~~ Smart TV, bring it on.

Just so you know where I am coming from on impulsive football related decisions, here is another prime example. A 12' X9' inflatable screen with HD projector for every single Clemson Football Game. What? I was not consulted and as you can tell, not as big a fan as Big R.

(This is my father in law below playing the roll of Fireman Roo, spraying all the kiddos out of the backyard.)

He's a riot, I tell you!

Ok, moving on to more exciting projects around my house. I have decided to spruce up my front entry with a pop of blue. I want to paint this chair.

I went to Lowes this morning, taking the advice of Jenny, to buy some Rust Oleum Protective Enamel oil based paint. Mr. Big and I made the trek unsuccessfully though, because as she mentioned in her post, Rust Oleum only comes in a handful of colors. Not the color blue I wanted. So, off to Sherwin Williams we go. As I am standing in line, I notice Mr. Big needs to start brushing his teeth. No more baby breath coming from this guy! I go to switch hips to pay for my paint, and his diaper has leaked (in the most horrible way imaginable, I will spare you the details) all over my white shirt. Lovely. I scribble my name and race home only to realize after painting one coat that I got the wrong shade!!!!!!! Seriously. Is it Monday? This is what I got.

It's not bad, but this is what I meant to get-Hyper Blue-more my style. I hope to have an "AFTER" for you on Wednesday. Happy Monday to those of you still reading!

My baby cakes starts his first day of "Toddler Time" today. How is this happening?? I never thought I would be so sad to see him go to school. As my mom would say, "You need to PEP up, Way Way. Things are going to be fine." I can hear her now:) I may cry. She would laugh.

We're heading to Fast and French after drop off for a "pep me up"coffee and croissant. That should do the trick.

And totally off the subject, but will get you "talking in circles", is this stuff. For any of you coffee lovers out there, you have got to try Trader Joes "ready to drink" Cafe Mocha or Cafe Latte. I never thought coffee in a can would be any good but this stuff surprised me. Low fat to boot. These are awesome especially over ice and they give me the jolt of energy I need come 4:00. Go getcha some.

A little somethin'

Here's a little peak at something I'm working on for a friend. The color is deceiving because it is actually more of a burnt orange with a reddish tint, but here it does appear red doesn't it? Well, anyway, you get the idea!!! I am going to paint the animals a pale blue/ gray to go with the nursery. This has to be one of my favorites!

This is hands down the best yogurt in town. It has the CREAMIEST texture and the perfect blend of fruit (my favorite being blueberry) This is dessert, breakfast or really any time of day treat. And a treat it truly is!!! You MUST try it next time you are at Whole Foods!

Ikea Kitchen

What are your thoughts on Ikea kitchens? Anyone out there have one or know someone who has one? We are seriously considering a kitchen redo and are leaning towards Ikea. I found a super informative blog that lists all the pros and cons of going this route. Carol Reed is recognized as a top interior designer in Toronto. Here are some pics of Ikea kitchens she has designed...pretty impressive, huh?

Where have you been?

You might ask?? I decided to take a little break from blogging (and painting) and catch up on some good ole QT with the fam. After our last Novel. show, our little family moved out to Sullivan's Island for the week to enjoy a little fun in the sun with my in laws!

It all started very innocently...

But as the week went on...

Well, you get the idea. Not a whole lot of work was taking place during this peaceful and relaxing week:)

Next up was a little to trip to visit my parents with the boys. We hit the road yesterday midday intending to stay until Wednesday. INTENDING is the key word here-we didn't make it to noon Tuesday before I had the car packed up and headed south. The boys were scaling the walls-lets just say in the time we were there, Mr. Big fell in the pool (no worries, I fished him out), I broke my toe (twice), R needs his ears cleaned because he was having a hard time hearing me;), annnd Mr. Big woke up at 5 am. It's always fun going home and visiting with my parents and friends (sorry SP-I'll have to catch you next time!!!) We had a fun but short trip....until next time...

I am obsessed with this fabric. My mom says it's been on the chair 40 years-can you believe how well it's held up!! Especially in a neutral tone. I so wish I knew where I could find this fabric or something like it. Funny how cyclical trends are isn't it?

I started searching when I got home and ran across a great fabric site on Jenny's blog that I always forget about. Have you checked out Spoonflower? You can design your own fabric-how cool!!!! I bet I could design something similar?? And the prices range from $18-$32 a yard. I'll share a few of my favorites..

This leads me to tell you about a new project I'm helping a friend with...custom painted hand towels.
